After several hours of unsuccessful negotiation, Saskatoon Police say a 54-year-old Saskatoon man who had barricaded himself inside an apartment unit has been taken into custody.
Around 12:30 a.m. this morning (Friday), police were called to a report of a man armed with a knife threatening to cause harm to others.
When officers arrived, the individual barricaded himself inside an apartment unit located in the 300 block of Pendygrasse Road.
Patrol, Crisis Negotiation, Tactical Support, K9, and Forensic Identification were all part of the effort to get the man to come out of the apartment, but he refused to negotiate and according to police acted in an erratic manner while continuing to refuse to comply with any police commands.
A news release was issued around 10:30 this morning saying that members of the Tactical Support Unit breached the barricaded unit and took the suspect into custody after deploying an impact round – a less-lethal weapon. He has been taken to hospital and charges are pending.
