There is an update to the RCMP investigation about a man found dead in a trail area on Big River First Nation. Just after 6 on Wednesday night officers responded to the scene and the death was considered suspicious so the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crime Unit took over the investigation.
The man has been identified as 30 year old Lionel Whitehead of Pelican Lake First Nation. RCMP say the reason his name is being released is because they are looking for the public to report any sightings or interactions with Lionel since September 30th.
As well, the pictures below of a white, 2017 Chevrolet 1500 truck was reported stolen from Pelican Lake First Nation and could have happened between the evening of September 30th and the morning of October 3rd. It was found near the trail where Lionel’s body was found, and police believe it may be related to this investigation. Anyone with information about Lionel Whitehead or about the truck are asked to contact the police.
The truck has distinguishing features like a different tire/rim on the back driver’s side and black tape over the driver’s side taillight. (Saskatchewan license plate 964 HHA) The truck may have been in the Pelican Lake First Nation, Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation or Big River First Nation areas.
