Egor Sidorov (pictured) is on fire to start the 2022-23 W-H-L season. The 18-year-old forward from Belarus scored three times Friday, the second hat-trick of his Dub career, pacing the Saskatoon Blades to a 5-3 victory in Brandon.
On a night when the teams took turns scoring goals, the Bridge City Bunch kept taking the lead until Sidorov’s third tally of the night, on a late second period power play, put the Blue and Gold ahead for good at 4-3. Sidorov opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season, gave the Blades a 2-1 lead with his sixth tally and his seventh in just five games played upped Saskatoon’s record to 4-2-0. Captain Aidan De La Gorgendiere and Conner Roulette added the other markers for the Bridge City Bunch. Roulette added two assists while Josh Pillar chipped in with three helpers as the line of Roulette-Pillar-Sidorov combined for nine scoring points and 18 shots on goal. When Brandon’s Jake Chiasson tied the score at 3-3 seven-and-a-half minutes into the second period, the shots on goal were also even at 19-19. Over the final 32-and-a-half minutes, the Blades out-shot the now 1-2-1 Wheaties 22-12 for a final tally of 41-31. Saskatoon returns home to host Moose Jaw Sunday at 4 o’clock with CJWW’s broadcast beginning at 3:45.
