The Saskatoon Blades are on their second, three-game winning streak of the season, getting there Sunday by over-powering the Calgary Hitmen 4-2 Sunday before 3,352 fans at SaskTel Centre.
For a second straight Sunday home game, the Bridge City Bunch spotted the opposition an early opening goal, but responded to take over on the way to a sixth victory in eight starts this regular-season. Brandon Lisowsky scored his first two goals of the season to more than nullify Grayden Siepmann’s opening tally. Jordan Keller added what turned out to be the winning goal late in the second period, then assisted on Josh Pillar’s insurance tally in a third period in which the Blue and Gold out-shot Calgary, now 3-2-2 for the season, 13-8 and 30-28 overall. The Blades had been off since the previous Sunday when they upended Moose Jaw 4-1 while the Hitmen had trimmed the Raiders 6-1 in Prince Albert the night before. Thanks to solid goaltending from Austin Elliott (pictured), who stopped 26 shots, Saskatoon has kept the opposition from scoring more than three goals in all eight games thus far this season – a franchise record. Elliott denied Hitmen leading scorer Oliver Tulk twice – on a late first period penalty shot attempt, then off a breakaway as Tulk came out of the penalty box in the final minute of the second frame. The Bridge City Bunch improved to 6-2-0 for the season as they started a run of six consecutive games against Central Division opposition. The next five will be on the road in Alberta, starting Wednesday in Lethbridge. Following is the game’s audio highlights, plus Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Brennan Sonne, Lisowsky and Elliott, plus the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
