It’s my Parting Shot for the early edition of Weekend Short Shots…
As much as I don’t want to agree with Davis Sanchez, I find myself leaning that way when it comes to the Cody Fajardo injury situation and whether he’ll play in Sunday’s C-F-L Western final or not. Sanchez believed that if “Corndog Cody” wasn’t a full-time participant in yesterday’s practice session, then he wouldn’t be available to the Saskatchewan Roughriders at all on Sunday! The fact that the Green and White are holding closed workouts today and tomorrow leads me to think the Riders are hiding the truth that Rider Nation doesn’t want to hear or know…for the second straight year, the Roughriders won’t have their starting quarterback available to play in a home playoff game against Winnipeg!
Does last night’s crowd count of 7,425 at SaskTel Centre for the Canada-Russia SuperSeries mean that Saskatoon really does like hockey? Or, is Saskatoon really an event town? Or, is it a little from column A and a little from Column B…as I suspect os the case! Considering ticket sales were only at about 2,600 a week-to-10 days before Team W-H-L laced them up against the Roosskies, the attendance and accompanying noise and atmosphere last night was heartening to say the least!
Hockey Canada head scout Brad McEwen, Team Canada head coach Dale Hunter and his brother Mark, from Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence management team in charge of our country’s World Junior entry for this season, are in town and will be in Prince Albert for tonight’s final game of the Super Series. I’m pretty sure their minds are made up as to who will attend the Selection Camp early next month in Toronto…no matter how the Super Series games go…but I’m sure they’d welcome any late N-H-L player re-assignments! But, if you’re thinking that Kirby Dach could be among that group…and maybe come back to Saskatoon once the World Juniors are over…forget about it! Dach has played 12 games with Chicago, has three goals and three assists for six points and has scored in each of his last two games for the Blackhawks. He’s in the Windy City to stay!!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk.
