For a fifth straight game, the Saskatoon Blades locked down the third period on the way to a victory – the latest success being Friday’s 3-0 triumph over the Hitmen in Calgary.
A tense goaltender’s duel between Austin Elliott (pictured) of the Bridge City Bunch and 20-year-old Brayden Peters of the Hitties was scoreless until Conner Roulette shot and scored on a 3-on-2 break into the Calgary zone at 8:30 of the third period. Brandon Lisowsky banged in his own rebound 25 seconds later for a 2-0 lead and Justin Lies completed the scoring with less than three minutes remaining as the Blue and Gold out-shot the Hitmen 14-5 in the final 20 minutes and 32-30 overall. Elliott, from nearby Strathmore, Alberta, stopped all 30 shots for his first career W-H-L shutout. The fifth straight win improves the Blades’ record to 8-2-0 while Calgary’s third consecutive loss leaves them at 3-4-2. Saskatoon also extended their franchise record of games to start a season without allowing more than three goals to 10, allowing only 20 goals in total while scoring 36. The Blades have Saturday off before taking on the defending W-H-L-champion Oil Kings in Edmonton Sunday at 4 o’clock. CJWW’s broadcast starts at 3-45. Following are the audio highlights of the game, plus the game summary courtesy the W-H-L and Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interview with head coach Brennan Sonne…..
