Just before 10:30 last night (Fri), the Moose Jaw Police Service issued an emergency alert through the Sask Alert app about a dangerous person, saying a man shot a gun at police at 4th Avenue NW and Caribou Street and then ran eastbound. Just over a half hour later, the alert was cancelled when the suspect was captured.
This began when Moose Jaw Police determined firearms were present in a home in the 800 block of 4th Avenue NW. A search warrant was obtained and both Moose Jaw officers and the Regina Police Service Tactical Unit responded. Before the Regina team could arrive though, officers say an individual left the residence, fired a handgun at police and then ran. No one was injured.
Around 9:50 in the evening, shots were reported near a home on Ross Street West. An individual was found in a backyard and Crisis Negotiators spoke with him. He surrendered at 10:36 and was taken into custody. The charges for 32 year old Jirard Saddleback of Calgary include attempted murder, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited firearm. Saddleback was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large out of Calgary. He appears in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Monday.
