This week the province put the Valley View Centre property south of Moose Jaw up for sale with tenders ending in early December. Concerned Moose Jaw residents visited the Saskatchewan Legislature to question what will happen to the 200 acre property.
During Question Period, Central Services Critic, Cathy Sproule, said it seems to be a rush sale with a lack of consultation for residents and First Nations. She explained that the land holds historical, archaeological and ecological significance and the Heritage Branch considers it a heritage-sensitive site, and yet there will be no heritage review.
Social Services Minister Paul Merriman says in the past 7 years 150 people have been transitioned out of Valley View, so it’s not news that the facility is closing. He adds the Central Services Ministry will handle the next stages for Valley View and due diligence will be done in the next transition of the Valley View property.
