The Leader of the Official Opposition calls the Throne Speech recycled promises that fall short on addressing the most pressing issues facing Saskatchewan people. Carla Beck says, “Health facilities and hospital beds are closed across the province. It is near impossible to find a family doctor. People are struggling to find good, mortgage-paying jobs. Families are struggling to make ends meet, and instead of relief, the Sask Party is making life more expensive by hiking taxes and fees and raising utility rates.” She adds that hundreds of good paying full-time jobs will be lost when the liquor stores are privatized.
The first day of the Fall Sitting of the Legislature also included the swearing-in of Nathaniel Teed following his by-election win from the Saskatoon Meewasin riding. Beck says Nathaniel Teed makes history today (Wed) as the first openly gay MLA to be sworn in to the Legislature. She notes that Teed won his seat by the largest margin in decades, which she believes shows that people are tired of the Sask Party government.
