When St. Frances Cree Bilingual School moves into its new facility it will have a new science, technology, arts and mathematics lab thanks to a $250,000 donation from Affinity Credit Union.
The Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools says the lab will integrate western knowledge and scientific techniques with Indigenous ways of knowing and doing.
The students will study indoors and outdoors in what the school division describes as culturally-relevant ways with the goal of inspiring students to engage in math and science related areas of study and careers.
St. Frances Cree Bilingual School is home to Canada’s largest Indigenous language program. Having outgrown its current spaces, construction of a new school is set to begin this fall or winter on the corner of Grosvenor Avenue and 7th Street. The Government of Saskatchewan funds the school itself but donations are what provides the school with specialized learning spaces, cultural spaces or playgrounds.
