The Saskatoon Hilltops scored first and were within one score early in the fourth quarter before running out of gas in Regina as the Thunder captured the Prairie Football Conference title Sunday with a 39-21 triumph at Mosaic Stadium.
However, two Toppers made notches in the P-F-C and C-J-F-L record books. Running back Charles Sawi set a P-F-C playoff record for most missed field goal returns in a game with two, tying him for 2nd in the C-J-FL. Sawi’s 100 yards in missed field goal return yards is 2nd most in P-F-C playoff history and 3rd in the C-J-F-L. His returns of 53 and 47 yards are the 2nd and 3rd longest in the P-F-C, 5th and 7th longest in the C-J-F-L.
In addition, Hilltops linebacker Matt Wist recorded nine solo and nine assisted tackles in the P-F-C final. The nine assisted tackles are tied for 2nd most in a P-F-C playoff game and 4th most in the C-J-F-L.
