The Dangerous Person Alert was issued on Wednesday morning following a homicide in the city located about 40 kilometres southeast of Yorkton. It was officially cancelled shortly before 2pm with the RCMP saying the initial investigation determined the shootings were not believed to be random in nature.
RCMP confirm one man is dead and another man sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of a shooting that occurred near the Country Inn Motel in Melville around 9:15am. The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment.
There will continue to be an increased police presence in Melville and on roadways in and around the community as the investigation unfolds. The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation.
Saskatchewan residents are asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.
