This week’s viral RNA load is consistent with the downward trend observed for four weeks before last week’s increase, which indicates that SARS-CoV-2 infection in Saskatoon is low but not over and should be watched. That’s the summary from researchers at the University of Saskatchewan who monitor SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA load in wastewater.

It decreased by 80.3 per cent in Saskatoon in the latest reporting period.

In Prince Albert viral RNA is considered unchanged because it only increased 2.5 per cent. That viral RNA load is considered medium while North Battleford, like Saskatoon, is also considered low after seeing a decrease of 27.9 per cent of viral RNA in wastewater.

It is again all Omicron in all three cities, albeit a multitude of variations of that strain of COVID-19.
