Saskatchewan’s Official Opposition Leader asked in Question Period on Monday why the government funded an independent Christian school which included as part of its curriculum the suggestion that human beings and dinosaurs existed at the same time. This comes from former students of the Christian Centre Academy, now known as Legacy Christian Academy in Saskatoon, who also allege physical and emotional abuse. Carla Beck asked, “Does the Premier think that it’s appropriate that kids in publicly funded schools were learning that humans and dinosaurs walked the earth together?”
Education Minister Dustin Duncan answered that there were changes made in 2012-13, and the ACE workbooks were replaced with ones that are in compliance with the rest of the province. He says there was work done with the curriculum consultant to ensure that the workbooks used going forward were in alignment.
Beck pointed out that the ACE resources were still available on the school’s website.
