VB: SSK hitter elevates Huskies in weekend action
Mortensen named CW Player of the Week
15 November 2022
The fifth-year outside was electric in this weekend’s action, throwing down 17 kills Friday as his Huskies battled the unbeaten Mount Royal Cougars. Mortensen also put up five digs and two blocks, but his efforts weren’t quite enough as the Huskies fell 3-1.
Mortensen led the Huskies back into battle for the rematch Saturday, this time going off for 23 kills to hand the Cougars their first loss of the season. The hitter was relentless on defence as well, posting nine digs and three blocks in the back-and-forth action.
He now ranks second in the conference for total hits this season with 120 already registered through the first four weeks. His lethal arm is helping the Huskies solidify their place among the conference’s top teams.
Mortensen and the Huskies are now off for a week before returning to the court on Nov. 25 and 26 at Thompson Rivers.
