The Saskatoon Fire Department was called out to a house fire on 7th Avenue North late yesterday morning and the home is completely destroyed.

The call came in at 11:20 am. of flames being visible from the rear of the building in the 1500 block of 7th Avenue North in Saskatoon’s North Park neighbourhood.

Incoming fire crews could see heavy smoke and the structure fully involved in fire. Within 20 minutes of the initial call, a rear porch collapsed, and flames were visible in the roof, by 12:23 p.m. the fire was fully involved on the 2nd floor, and just over an hour later portions of the house began failing and falling. A backhoe was brought in to pull the building apart so areas that were difficult for firefighters to reach with hose lines could be extinguished.

This structure is a complete loss, and a scene examination will not be conducted by the Fire Investigator. The cause and origin of this fire are not known. The damage is estimated to be $350,000. No one was injured in the fire and those who live there have been temporarily rehoused until they find permanent housing.
