At the Metis Nation-Saskatchewan fall Legislative Assembly, delegates unanimously rejected the provincial government’s Saskatchewan First Act. The MN-S says in a news release it clearly ignores the inherent rights of Metis citizens to be consulted on constitutional change that impacts their communities. The Metis Nation Legislative Assembly directed the executive to call for the immediate withdrawal of the proposed legislation, and for the provincial government to start again, honouring the nation-to-nation relationship with Metis people.
MNLA delegates also strongly oppose the selling off of Crown Land, saying it’s unconstitutional. The MNLA would like the province to engage in the development of a consultation protocol that will rightfully respect Metis rights and honour the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
