The 2019 Scotiabank Playbook annual report has ranked the Mission Canyon Frobisher, Alida play, in Southeast Saskatchewan, as the best in North America. The report analyses the profitability of specific oil and gas resources, or plays. Last week, a Fraser Institute survey ranked Saskatchewan 13th in terms of policies affecting oil and gas investment. Our showing makes Saskatchewan the most attractive province in Canada.
Energy and resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre says, “These two reports highlight Saskatchewan’s reputation as a highly competitive jurisdiction that offers a stable, low-risk investment climate.” Scotiabank ranked Southwest Saskatchewan’s Cantuar oil play seventh place.
The Fraser Institute’s Senior Policy Analyst Ashley Stedman is more cautious in his assessment. He says, “Canada’s onerous and uncertain regulations, along with our dearth of pipeline capacity, have created a competitiveness chasm between Canada and the United States.”
