Planet Fitness, which held its grand opening in Saskatoon just over a year ago, has awarded one local teen the $500 Teen Summer Challenge Scholarship.
18 year old Danae Ong was awarded the scholarship and is currently attending Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C.
The Teen Summer Challenge took place from May 15th to September 1st. Planet Fitness opened its doors to high school teenagers, aged 15 to 18, to work out for free at any of its locations in Canada and the United States. All the teens who signed up were automatically entered into Planet Fitness’ Scholarship Sweepstakes.
One teen in each participating province was randomly selected to receive the $500 scholarship.
In it’s inaugural year in Canada and the US, more than 900-thousand teens signed up for the Teen Summer Challenge and they logged 5.5 million workouts.
Planet Fitness officials point out the significance of that achievement when the 2018 ParticipACTION Report Car shows only 35 per cent of Canadian children and teens are meeting physical activity guidelines of 60 minutes of heart pumping physical activity per day
