There was a fiery train derailment in southeast Saskatchewan around 10 o’clock this morning (Thurs). Photos on social media show flames and billowing black smoke from a CP train. The derailment was just north of Macoun, which is a twenty minute drive northwest of Estevan. As of late afternoon, Highway 39 remains blocked by RCMP due to the smoke. CP Rail and local emergency response crews are on the scene
A Civil Emergency Alert was sent out for residents within a 2200 metre area of the derailment earlier today saying they would be contacted if they were required to evacuate, but it was cancelled, and then was re-issued at 4:30. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has deployed a team of investigators to investigate.
