Saskatoon Tribal Council Health and Family Services has unveiled a project which provides another option for those struggling with substance abuse and addiction issues. The wicihitowin (Helping One Another) Project incorporates culture as a health intervention.

The federal government officially announced $2.5-million in funding through Health Canada for this project which includes outreach services and Medavie paramedics working seven days a week. Arcand states that STC has the program lead services that are needed to support those who are struggling, and he believes returning people to the roots of culture for treatment is a proven process.

The wîcihîtowin Project team includes cultural support, a nurse practitioner, mental health counsellor, a case manager, outreach workers and peer support workers.
The team began serving Saskatoon in late November.
