The SaskatoonFire department was called out shortly after 5:30 this morning to a fire at a boarded up and vacant house.

Fire officials say it was unknown if anyone was inside the building at the time of the fire.

When fire crews breached the entrance, a fire was discovered in a bedroom on the upper floor.

The fire was brought under control at 6:10 a.m. and no one was found inside the vacant house.

The house had been vacated 10 days prior to the fire, according to the Fire Investigator, and while they know the fire started in a mattress on the second-floor bedroom, cause of the fire is undetermined. Damage is estimated at $20,000.

In addition, the Investigator determined that a board was missing from a broken window which would have allowed entry to the vacant house. The Saskatoon Fire Department will follow up with the property owner in regard to securing the property and what repairs are required.
