The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board has approved an increase of 4.1 per cent for next year’s average employer premium rate at $1.28 per hundred dollars of payroll. WCB’s chair, Gord Dobrowolsky, says although it’s a five cent increase, it’s still among the lowest Rates in Canada. The primary drivers are claim costs and payroll.
For the past two years during the pandemic, the WCB adjusted the average premium rate to help lift some pressure off employers. The 2022 rate of $1.23 is below the required rate of $1.25 and the 2021 was held at $1.16, below the required rate of $1.23, saving employers $14-million in 2021 and another $4.8-million in 2022.
