Between Saturday and Tuesday, Battlefords RCMP responded to five separate incidents of shots fired in North Battleford. Officers are continuing to investigate each incident and have increased patrols in the community to help maintain public safety. Police can’t confirm at this point whether the victims and the suspects know each other or if they incidents are related, but based on preliminary information, there are some indications the incidents may be gang related.

In the first incident, a shot was fired at a home, then less than an hour later officers responded to a shot fired at a vehicle. Three people were shot in the next three incidents. The first male was shot in the leg while in a home. The second was walking and was shot at an intersection and received non-life threatening injuries. A female was shot by a person in a vehicle who drove up beside her and shot into the driver’s side, shattering both the driver and the rear passenger window. Her injuries are considered serious but non-life threatening.

Battlefords RCMP currently has nine active investigations regarding the discharge of a firearm.

A few more details:

In the first of the five recent investigations, last Saturday morning around 3:30 Battlefords RCMP responded to shots fired at a home where it was determined a suspect shot at a home and shattered the window, then about 45 minutes later, another report came in about a shot fired at a vehicle. There were no injuries in either incident.

On the 11th, around 2 in the morning, RCMP say there was a 911 report about someone being shot, but the call was disconnected. Officers confirmed the call came from a home in North Battleford and when the arrived they found a male with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to hospital by EMS. Police were told three unknown individuals dressed in black were seen leaving the house.

On the 12th, around 11:15 in the evening, Battlefords RCMP responded to the report of another individual who had been shot. Police were told a male was walking along the intersection of 110th Street and 11th Avenue when he was shot. His injuries are described as serious but non-life threatening. There were no suspects or vehicle identified as being involved.

On the 13th at 3 in the morning, RCMP were at a hospital for an unrelated matter when a female came in reporting she had been shot in the head. The victim says she was driving and noticed a dark coloured vehicle, possibly a jeep, begin to follow her. When she approached 105th Street, near a gas station, the vehicle pulled up beside her driver’s side and an unknown person shot a gun, shattering both driver’s side windows. She drove home and was taken to hospital by a family member for treatment of what were described as serious but non-life threatening injuries.
