Vaughn Watterodt (pictured) was down the list of likely members of the Saskatoon Blades to score Tuesday’s “Teddy Bear Toss” goal and was even more of a long-shot to score three times in the contest against the visiting Prince Albert Raiders.
The 18-year-old winger from Rosetown did both as the Bridge City Bunch downed P-A 3-1 for their 10th straight victory!
Watterodt touched off the “Teddy Bear Toss” for 6,195 fans at SaskTel Centre when he roofed his own rebound of an initial shot off a goal-post at 16:46 of the first period. Once the bears and stuffed animals were collected and the ice re-surfaced, Watterodt improved the Blue and Gold’s lead to 2-0 before the first period officially ended. He completed his hat-trick while the Blades were short-handed late in the second period. It’s the former Kamloops Blazer’s first W-H-L three-goal game and gave Saskatoon all the offence they would need as they improved their overall record to 25-5-0. Austin Elliott came within 67 seconds of his third shutout of the season when Carter Anderson tallied for 11-20-2 Prince Albert. The Bridge City Bunch have won all four head-to-head meetings with the Raiders thus far this season, have won five straight games at home and 14 of their last 15 games overall. The only team ahead of them in the W-H-L’s East Division and Eastern Conference standings, and the last team to beat the Blue and Gold, is the Blades’ next opponent. Saskatoon visits the Winnipeg ICE both Friday and Saturday. Following is the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L, the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast plus Post-Game Show interviews with Watterodt, head coach Brennan Sonne and defenceman Charlie Wright…..
