At 5:49 pm, the Saskatoon Fire Department was called to a report of a fire in a suite in the 200 block of Avenue D South.

The caller told 9-1-1 that they had tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher but weren’t successful.

Arriving fire crews say the fire alarm system was ringing throughout the building and alerted occupants that they needed to evacuate. Crews found a small fire that they quickly put out. It was under control by 6:02 p.m.

The fire Investigator has determined the fire to be intentionally set. Fire originated on the stove where combustible materials were placed, and the stove top was turned on. Damage is estimated at $20,000.

The Saskatoon Police Service will continue their portion of the investigation.

No one was injured.
