The intake pipes and exhaust vents around the outside of Saskatoon homes may be blocked with snow or ice due to recent weather. The Saskatoon Fire Department says city residents should check their vents before it’s too late, as when clogged, they could cause furnace malfunctions, or carbon monoxide could be leaked back into the home.
Signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include flu-like symptoms including dizziness, nausea, fatigue, headaches, or even loss of consciousness. As a precaution, functional carbon monoxide detectors should be installed on every level of the home.
If your alarm is sounding or if you are experiencing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, get family members and pets out of the building and call 911.
