Saskatchewan’s premier characterizes the decision by Sunwing to cancel Saskatchewan operations into next month, as irresponsible for everyone who has booked a vacation, particularly those who are currently at their destination and are uncertain how and when they will get home.

Scott Moe, in a written statement, says while airlines and air travel are regulated by the federal government, Saskatchewan’s Transportation Minister Jeremy Cockrill has been in contact with Sunwing and with federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra asking for a detailed plan of how and when passengers who travelled from Saskatchewan will get back, which is the immediate priority.

In the days ahead, he says the government expects Sunwing to appropriately compensate everyone who did not receive the service they purchased from Sunwing.

The company has been scrambling since bad weather hit across Canada over the Christmas holidays and has indicated to customers that those impacted with cancelled flights will receive a full refund from their original form of payment. No action is required from customers and refunds will be processed within 30 days.

Sunwing announced yesterday it is cancelling all flights out of Regina and Saskatoon up to and including February 3rd.
