The Saskatoon Police Service has plans for 2023 and is making plans for 2024 and 25. Chief Troy Cooper says 2023 is the 120th anniversary of the Saskatoon Police Service, so they will be highlighting its history throughout the year. The first Police Chief was Robert Edward Dunning, who was appointed Inspector, Constable, Engineer and Liquor License Inspector.
Cooper says 2023 is also a big year for the Police Service because they will be doing a lot of evaluating ahead of the City’s budget deliberations in November for both 2024 and 2025. He explains that a senior officer will be assigned to look at resourcing, and what makes the Police Service successful. The review will include going through the Alternate Response Officers program, the Body-Worn Cameras pilot project, the Air Support Unit and what the appropriate staffing levels might be for the anticipated population growth.
