A long-time attraction at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo passed away on New Year’s Eve.
Georgia the Porcupine was being treated by veterinarians and zoo staff prior to her death at the age of 16.
Georgia was a favorite of zoo patrons who saw her quills “up close and in-person.” She also educated children and adults about the importance of her species and her Saskatchewan habitat.
Zoo Manager Jeff Mitchell says Georgia was special and will be missed by the entire staff.
A porcupine can live 8 to 10 years in the wild and have a life expectancy of up to 18 years in zoos.
