Sunwing has issued an apology to passengers left stranded after winter storms impacted operations. However, the company also says “most of our customers enjoyed their holidays with minimal disruption.”
Sunwing Travel Group CEO Stephen Hunter and Sunwing Airlines president Len Corrado issued a joint statement yesterday saying they are “incredibly sorry for letting our customers down” and that they regret they did not meet the level of service Sunwing customers expect.
“We had clear failures in execution, particularly in responding to weather-related delays and the aftermath of severe weather disruptions, which limited our ability to reposition aircraft and crew to other airports to help alleviate the backlog in flights.”
Because of weather that impacted Canada coast-to-coast, starting back on December 22, hundreds of passengers were affected by Sunwing flight disruptions including being stranded for days while some flights flew empty because of a glitch with the airline’s computer system.
The sunshine destination air carrier also suggested what they experienced was comparable to what several other large carriers faced in the spring and summer during their first travel season since the pandemic.
The airline announced on December 29 that it was immediately cancelling its operations through to and including February 3, leaving from Saskatchewan.
