The Saskatoon Blades scored more goals Friday than they had in their previous three games combined, but still lost as the Bridge City Bunch were out-lasted 5-4 in a shootout by the Broncos in Swift Current.
Josh Filmon notched the only goal of the penalty shot contest as 17-15-1 Speedy Creek collected their fifth consecutive victory. Filmon appeared to complete a Broncos comeback from a 3-1 deficit in the final minute of the second period when his 24th goal of the season gave Swift Current a 4-3 lead with 3:59 remaining in the third period. However, Egor Sidorov (pictured) forced overtime with a power play goal with 1:15 left and goaltender Ethan Chadwick on the Blue and Gold bench for a sixth attacker. It looked like Sidorov would score in the five minutes of three-on-three overtime when captain Aidan De La Gorgendiere teed up the 18-year-old Belarus forward on a give-and-go, only to have his one-time shot stopped by sprawling Speedy Creek goaltender Reid Dyck. The 25-6-3 Blades also got goals from Charlie Wright, Conner Roulette and Tanner Molendyk as they are winless in four games, the last three losses all coming after regulation time and good for a point in the standings.
