The House of Commons transport committee is calling on Sunwing Airlines and Via Rail to publicly explain what caused the travel woes for Canadians over the holidays. Committee members are also calling on the Minister of Transport to provide an explanation.
Committee member, Conservative MP Mark Strahl, said some explanations have been offered in recent days but weather can’t explain all of the issues which arose and there is an important role to be played by the committee.
He says the committee’s goal is to help Canadians understand what happened, what their rights are and what compensation they may be entitled to. He also says their purpose is to hold those accountable responsible and getting answers as to what will be done to avoid a repeat of the same problems in the future.
For Saskatchewan travellers the situation was further exacerbated when Sunwing announced it was suspending all flights out of the province up to and including February 3rd.
