Sunwing has announced it is cancelling the “balance of its winter program” from Regina starting February 4th.

The airline says it will impact weekly flights from Regina to Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

And with the exception of customers scheduled to depart on Family Day Weekend and customers with Sunday bookings to Puerto Vallarta, Sunwing is offering customers a chance to transfer their vacation package to same day departures from other Canadian airports including Saskatoon and Winnipeg, at the originally booked price depending on availability.

Customers can also get a full refund. The news was provided in a travel agent update.

Sunwing claims that the cancellations are “necessary due to operational and business constraints that would prevent us from delivering the standards of service our customers in Regina both expect and deserve when travelling with Sunwing.”

On December 22, hundreds of passengers were affected by Sunwing flight disruptions including being stranded for days while some flights flew empty because of a glitch with the airline’s computer system.

The airline announced on December 29 that it was immediately cancelling its operations through to and including February 3, leaving from Saskatchewan.
