The Saskatoon Police Service called the Saskatoon Fire Department after officers noticed a building in the city’s northwest had water leaking and noises were heard inside.
When fire crews arrived around 3 a.m. on Saturday morning they identified that the building in 400 Block of 51st Street East was collapsing inwardly. A news release from the fire department indicated “exterior walls were failing from the structure being compromised by the roof’s pressure”.
Property management assisted the fire department in securing the scene.
The Saskatoon Fire Department has closed the building and an assessment will be required by a structural engineer.
