A Moose Jaw photographer is a winner in the Canadian Wildlife Federation annual photo contest.

Michael St Laurent was recognized in the Canadian Landscapes category. The winners are now featured in Canadian Wildlife and Biosphere magazines.

The grand prize photo was captured by Gary Morgan of Lower Sackville, N.S. whose once in a lifetime sighting of a Polar Bear on an ice track is reflected on the waters of southern Peel Sound in Nunavut.

While the 2023 contest does not open until August, CWF also runs a monthly photo club online and provides photography guides to inspire Canadians.

Rick Bates, CEO of CWF says, “Getting outdoors is good for your physical health and taking photos, meeting others and sharing your observations is good for your mental health.” He thanks the participants for inspiring conservation of wildlife and habitat for the use and enjoyment of all.

There were nearly 6,000 submissions in the five categories.

• Canadian Landscapes: Winner Michael St Laurent of Moose Jaw, Sask.
• Focus on Fauna: Winner Jean-Simon Bégin of Quebec City, Que.
• Finding Flora: Winner Judy Johnston of Courtenay, B.C.
• Urban Intersection: Winner Stéphane Dépelteau of St-Lin-Laurentides, Que.
