The provincial government is contributing 30 million dollars towards the cost of of a new prekindergarten to Grade 6 school in La Loche (artist rendering pictured).

Construction is underway with the Northern Lights School Division contributing additional funds to increase the size of the gymnasium so that it can be used by the community in addition to school use. The new school will accomodate about 475 students and will be 5,548 square metres in size. It will replace the 49-year-old Ducharme Elementary School. The new facility will have 26 classrooms, a kitchen for student meal programs and features local indigneous cultural elements. Saskatoon-based Wright Construction Western Inc. is the lead builder for the school which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025 and will be located next to Dene High School in La Loche.
