Since the spring of 2018, the Saskatchewan RCMP have been working in collaboration with Saskatoon-based Rivercity Innovations to crack down on rural property crime in the RM of Mayfield.
During that time, officers have been using Rivercity’s app called “BeeSecure” which helps officers receive information in real time of the location of stolen property.
Founder and CEO of Rivercity Innovations, Jeff Shirley says a tracker is placed in a stationary asset such as a ski-doo, quad or trailer. Once that asset begins to move, a GPS signal is sent to the app on your phone which shows you where your asset is.
Shirley says they have recently expanded their LoRa network to Emma Lake and Christopher Lake.
The network allows those who don’t have cell coverage or spotty cell coverage to still track their asset. Shirley says they have quite significant coverage with their LoRa network between North Battleford and Saskatoon.
The CEO says “BeeSecure” can be used to track your everyday vehicle, although that will drain the battery quicker. Shirley says the app is more intended to track assets that are often stationary.
