On “Goalies Night” Saturday, it was only right and proper that a goaltender shine. That netminder was Saskatoon product Ethan Chadwick (pictured) as he back-stopped the Blades to a 3-2 victory over the W-H-L-best Winnipeg ICE at SaskTel Centre.
The recently-turned 19-year-old stopped 34 of 36 shots in a first-star performance that featured several dazzling saves, the best and most timely of them being a point-blank rejection of a Zach Benson attempt in the dying seconds of the third period. Jake Chiasson broke a 2-2 tie at 3:21 of the third period and Chadwick made that stand up by stopping all 15 shots he faced in the third frame. Brandon Lisowsky and Egor Sidorov scored power play goals 67 seconds apart in the second period to overcome an early 1-0 deficit. Connor McClennon scored both goals for 37-7-1 Winnipeg, rated second in the C-H-L Top 10 this week. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the ICE. The Bridge City Bunch improved to 31-12-4 for the season to jump back ahead of idle Moose Jaw into second place in the East Division and third spot in the Eastern Conference, nine points back of Winnipeg. The Blue and Gold are right back in action Sunday when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings at 4 o’clock. CJWW’s broadcast begins at 3:45. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L and Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Brennan Sonne, Chadwick and Chiasson…..
