The province says there is progress in fixing the challenge of a shortage of health care professionals in Saskatchewan. That’s according to a news release from the government, updating the results of the Health Human Resources Action Plan to recruit, train, incentivize and retain workers. Registered Nurses from the Philippines who received conditional offers are working their way through the steps to being hired, which includes addressing any language issues, bridging education and licensing.
One of the priorities in this plan is to create more full-time positions and attract health professionals for rural and remote areas across the province. The Saskatchewan Health Authority has hired more than half of the new full-time and enhanced part-time to full-time permanent positions posted, with over 90 now filled. Thirty-one Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive packages were approved for a variety of positions. These packages are available in 52 communities for up to $50,000 in exchange for working three years in these rural and remote areas.
