A study from a Canadian health-tech company indicates the average wait time at walk-in clinics in Saskatchewan was 51 minutes last year, which is a 20 minute increase from 2021. Medimap’s study has the national average rising to 37 minutes, from 25 minutes in 2021.
Vice President of Operations for Medimap Teddy Wickland says one of the factors is the decrease of supply on the provider side. He explains that coming out of the pandemic a lot of doctors retired early, others closed their practice, and some converted from a walk -in clinic or family practice to a specialty clinic for a better work-life balance.
On the other side, Wickland says there are more people lliving in Canada, meaning more demand for doctors. In Saskatchewan, Moose Jaw had the longest average wait time in the province at 78 minutes. Martensville was next at 65 minutes, followed by Saskatoon at 62 , Warman 52, and Regina 39 minutes. (CJGX)
