The nation’s first superstar from university men’s volleyball, who plied his trade at the U of S, is the latest inductee into the Canada West Hall-of-Fame.
Darcey Busse was the first student-athlete from men’s volleyball to be named the C-I-A-U Player-of-the-Year on multiple occasions, collecting the honours in 1984 and 86. Busse, who is being inducted into the Canada West shrine posthumously, was a Canada West all-star in all five seasons that he played with the Huskies. Darcey Busse led Saskatchewan to CW heights during 1980s
The native of Moose Jaw made history as the first student-athlete to be named player of the year in Canadian men’s university volleyball on multiple occasions, receiving the honour in 1984 and 1986. He was a Canada West All-Star in all five of his seasons.
Monday the Huskies legend was inducted in the Canada West Hall of Fame.
With Saskatchewan, Busse won the Canada West title and advanced to the CIAU championship tournament on three occasions. At Nationals, the Huskies captured silver in 1980 and 1985 and bronze in 1986.
Busse capped his career receiving the E. Kent Phillips Trophy as U of S Male Athlete of the Year in 1985-86.
