Cody Fajardo took to his Twitter account Monday to say farewell to Rider Nation following three seasons as the face of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Free agent signings will start to be announced Tuesday at 11 a.m., Saskatchewan Time. Multiple media reports say it’s very likely Fajardo will join Montreal as a free agent once the Alouettes are in position to sign off on a deal.
The 30-year-old Fajardo signed with the Green and White in 2019 to serve as a back-up, though he was thrust into the starting role following an injury to starter Zach Collaros. After solid 2019 and 21 seasons, Fajardo was benched in favour of Mason Fine late this past season while the Roughriders were still mathematically eligible to earn a post-season berth. He never ruled out a return to Saskatchewan in free agency, though the Riders reportedly recently agreed to terms on a contract with veteran quarterback Trevor Harris. Fajardo threw for over 10,600 yards, 48 touchdowns and 32 interceptions over 48 games as a member of the Green and White. He also rushed 266 times for over 1,400 yards and 22 majors.
