After completing a year and a half of construction on the Jansen Potash Project 140km east of Saskatoon, BHP has now finished the shaft lining works. They are now fitting out the shafts with services. Vice President of Projects with BHP Canada, Simon Thomas, explains it is quite an active project site, and the company has built up a team of over 1,000 people, and it will only continue to grow through the construction phase.

Thomas adds that BHP has looked at how they can reduce their carbon emissions and use of fresh water within the mine’s design process. He says that per production ton, the mine will contribute 50 per cent less c02 emissions and have over 60 per cent less reliance on freshwater use.
