In with the new and out with the old!
That’s how Day 1 of C-F-L free agency started, and is still on-going, especially involving the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Quarterback Trevor Harris made his anticipated move from Montreal to the Green and White with Cody Fajardo moving the other way to the Alouettes. The 36-year-old Harris signed for two years with the Riders for, reportedly, more than $500,000 per season. Also on the “outs” from Saskatchewan is import receiver Shaq Evans after signing a one-year deal with Ottawa, import receiver Duke Williams is expected to sign with Hamilton, import receiver Kyran Moore has signed with Edmonton plus the Elks signed former Roughriders’ O-Lineman Josiah St. John.
Besides Harris, Green and White G-M Jeremy O’Day was busy with free agent signings – former Als’ receiver Jake Weineke, shoring up the offensive line by inking Canadians Phillip Blake from Toronto and Peter Godber from B-C. Veteran import defensive tackle Micha Johnson returns to the Riders from Hamilton, import D-Lineman Stefen Banks comes to the Green and White from Calgary, import receiver Shawn Bane Junior from Calgary and Canadian pass-catcher Juwan Brescasin from Toronto. In addition, Saskatchewan announced that import receiver Kalija Lipscomb would be at training camp in May. Click on the new player names in this story for a link to the news release from the Riders.
Besides Kyran Moore, the Edmonton signed former Montreal star receiver Eugene Lewis to a reported two-year, $600,000 deal. He will be looked upon to fill the void left by receiver Kenny Lawler, who returned to Winnipeg after one season with the Edmonton. The Elks also signed free agent receiver Steven Dunbar Junior from Hamilton.
