Last year, 11-hundred-60 animals were cared for by Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation.
That’s quite a leap from 20 animals in its first year in 2005, and with that growth, it costs more to run.
That’s why Hazlewood , a vintage store on 20th Street, is hosting an art show on Friday night with some of the proceeds going to the wildlife rehab organization.
Curator and Living Sky volunteer, Jillian Bogan, says about 20 artists are featuring their work.
The event bridges the gap between art and nature.
Living Sky cares for injured wildlife and releases the survivors back to their natural habitat.
Bogan says they receive all sorts of birds from sparrows to owls and hawks, skunks, foxes, porcupines, squirrels and everything in between.
The Wild-Life Art Show runs from 5 to 10 on Friday Night at Hazlewood on 20th Street.
Many of the bird injuries are from window strikes or cat attacks.
Bogan suggests putting special stickers on your window which birds can see, and for cats, her advice is to put a bell on their collars.
You can also get bibs which inhibit their pouncing.
Bogan cautions if a bird is bitten by your cat, it will need antibiotics right away because a cat’s bite has lots of bacteria.
