If you saw what seemed like a large police presence in downtown Saskatoon this morning, it was a barricaded person situation.

Saskatoon Police responded to a report around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning from the 100 block of 2nd Avenue South where a Saskatoon man was threatening to harm himself and others.

Saskatoon Police say the man had barricaded himself in an apartment unit. Crisis Negotiators and members of the Tactical Support Unit, along with the initial Patrol Officers all responded.

Paramedics and firefighters were also on standby. Due to the ongoing threat, the Tactical Support Unit breached the apartment door and successfully took the man into custody.

A 30-year-old Saskatoon man is facing charges of mischief under/over $5,000 as well as assaulting a police officer. He was also taken for a psychiatric assessment at the hospital.
