A Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench judge has granted interim receivership of Lighthouse Supported Living at the request of board members. The accounting firm MNP has taken over operations.

President of the Lighthouse Board of Directors, Jerome Hepfner, says they believe the appointment of a receiver is the best way to protect the interests of the Lighthouse’s clients, staff, stakeholders and creditors. In an email, Hepfner says, “Those seeking to keep control of the Lighthouse now were removed last year by the court with good reason, as outlined in the previous court decisions. Our goal is to maintain services for the Lighthouse’s clients and protect staff and stakeholders.”

The Lighthouse offers affordable housing and supportive living services. Until this past summer, it also provided emergency shelter, but the province withdrew its funding for the 61 spaces, and the service was moved to the Salvation Army and the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s Emergency Wellness Centre. The province said at the time, the decision was made following challenges with governance, management and financial controls, and safety concerns due to the concentration of services in one location.
