The Government of Canada says it will stand with the people of Ukraine for as long as it takes. It was a year ago today (Fri) that Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion. The Prime Minister has announced new measures, including new military equipment and additional sanctions. Four additional Leopard two main battle tanks will be sent to support Ukraine’s Armed Forces, which makes eight tanks in total. Canada is also offering an armoured recovery vehicle and over 5,000 rounds of ammunition.

A news release from the Prime Minister’s Office says Canada is also tackling the unfair trade practices of Russia and Belarus, calling them out for intervening to articificially lower the prices of their goods. The goal is to protect Canadian producers from competing against unfair foreign investment price distortions on imports. The federal government has also announced more than $32 million in support of security and stabilization, which includes countering chemical, biological and nuclear threats in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister says, “Putin thought his invasion would be a quick victory, but he was mistaken. Ukrainians have stood strong over the last 365 days and counting, and as Russia continues its brutal war against Ukraine, Canada and Canadians will stand by the Ukrainian people for as long as it takes.”
