The Red Deer Rebels’ physical and heavy style of play back-fired on them Wednesday as the Saskatoon Blades used their power play to record a 5-2 victory at SaskTel Centre.
The Bridge City Bunch improved to 39-13-5 for the season by connecting on their first two man-power advantages and added a third power play tally in the third period as they moved three points ahead of 38-17-4 Red Deer in the Eastern Conference standings. The line of Brandon Lisowsky-Trevor Wong and Egor Sidorov (pictured) combined for nine points. Wong had three assists as he upped his consecutive game points streak to 11 games. Lisowsky hit the 30-goal plateau with his first of two goals and added a helper while Sidorov had two goals, an assist and a third period fight for a Gordie Howe hat-trick. Sidorov’s scrap with rookie Rebels’ defenceman Quenton Bourne was one of three fights at 7:59 of the third period as referees Bob Millette and Bryce Sebastian whistled down 77 of 137 minutes worth of penalties in the game during that one multi-fight outburst. Jayden Wiens had the other goal for the Blue and Gold, who out-shot the Rebels 38-10, including 13-0 in the first period. The 10 shots on goal allowed is the fewest surrendered by the Blades this season. Saskatoon opens a three games-in-three nights stretch of games Friday when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors. Following is the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L, the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast and Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Brennan Sonne plus defencemen Tanner Molendyk and Aidan De La Gorgendiere…..
